SAN DIEGO, CA (July 23, 2013) – Accion San Diego, a nonprofit micro-lender offering small business resources and loans from $300 to $50,000, is the recipient of a grant funded by the Union Bank Foundation to support small businesses in San Diego County. The $75,000 grant, paid over three years, comes after the foundation recently announced grant funding, ranging from $25,000 to $100,000, for nearly 30 small business technical assistance and homeownership counseling nonprofit organizations in California and the Pacific Northwest.

Union Bank Senior Vice President and Regional Executive Lawrence Henry, Senior Vice President and Foundation President Carl Ballton and Vice President and Foundation Officer Kathy Patoff presented the $75,000 grant to Accion Executive Director Elizabeth Schott and other staff at Accion’s office.

“We are pleased to receive this grant from the Union Bank Foundation to support and increase the services that we provide to small businesses and entrepreneurs, particularly in the low income ethnic minority communities that we serve,” said Accion Executive Director Elizabeth Schott. “This is one way that small businesses may continue to strive and provide jobs in our local communities.”

The grant will help Accion continue its work in the community and increase the scope and quality of services in low-to-moderate-income communities.

“Union Bank is committed to helping businesses increase their revenue and the number of employees they hire,” said Ballton. “We share Accion’s passion for empowering small businesses to grow and succeed, and we recognize that small businesses are the backbone of this nation’s economic recovery.”
