Linda faced more challenges when she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer in 2011. While having to endure many long days in the hospital, Carmen brought Linda jewelry making material to keep her busy. Linda always loved jewelry and discovered a talent for creating beautiful earrings, necklaces and bracelets. Their first customer was a nurse at the Naval Hospital in San Diego after he said, “I would buy some for my grandma, you should sell them.” From that point on, more nurses and doctors came by to purchase Linda’s designs and word spread among family and friends.
In August 2012, the Make-A-Wish Foundation granted Linda’s wish to meet and be mentored by her role model, Ivanka Trump, a jewelry designer and model. In November, Carmen took out a $6,000 Accion loan to buy supplies and help market their budding business.
LindaDesigns4u.com is a fulfillment of Carmen’s business experience and Linda’s vision of creating beautiful jewelry. A portion of all proceeds goes towards supporting children in foster care who are battling cancer. They recently presented Linda’s first collection, ‘Strength in Celebration,’ inspired by the colors of Christmas from around the world with designs from $15 to $35.
