The North County Times profiled a local student who works to help Ugandan children! Here is a quick excerpt from the story about this motivated teen:
Catherine, a 14-year-old student at Guajome Academy in Vista, had heard about the vast problems facing children in some African countries, but realized she needed to know more.
"I came away from my vacation wanting to help orphaned children get off the streets in Uganda and out of wars," Catherine said. "My first instinct was, 'What can a 14-year-old girl do to help with a huge problem like this?' But I had memories of a 2-year-old boy on the streets with his hands out, begging, and I knew I had to do something."
Catherine had heard of the current trend of micro-businesses ---- small, limited-budget businesses ---- and started her own from home, working in partnership with the nonprofit Dwelling Places, a group dedicated to helping Ugandan children orphaned and displaced by conflict.
